Mesquite ISD Bond Update: Mesquite High School Plans Move Forward

Mesquite ISD continues to make progress on bond-funded projects, with updated plans for Mesquite High School focused on improving safety, connectivity, and student learning environments.
The proposed design addresses several long-standing challenges on campus, including disconnected buildings, outdated facilities, and limited visibility at the main entrance. Current conditions have created safety concerns and inefficiencies, particularly with portable buildings and fragmented campus layout.
Creating a Safer, More Connected Campus
A major focus of the project is improving campus security and flow. Plans include relocating the main entrance to a more visible location and positioning the administration area directly at the entry to enhance oversight and safety.
The design will also connect existing buildings through new corridors, creating a more unified campus and improving student movement throughout the school.
New Construction and Renovations
The project includes approximately 40,000 square feet of new construction and more than 45,000 square feet of renovations.
Key additions and upgrades include:
- Expanded fine arts facilities with a built-in storm shelter
- A renovated and expanded cafeteria and kitchen
- Updated counseling and clinic spaces
- New collaboration areas throughout the campus
- Improved accessibility, including elevator access to additional buildings
Modernizing Learning Environments
Plans also address outdated and undersized learning spaces, with upgrades designed to better support today’s instructional needs. Improved circulation and redesigned shared spaces will create a more cohesive and welcoming environment for students and staff.
The overall design concept centers on unifying the campus by connecting past additions into one cohesive layout, strengthening both functionality and the student experience.
Looking Ahead
With an estimated total project cost of approximately $58.9 million, the Mesquite High School project represents a significant investment in the future of the campus and the students it serves.
These updates are part of Mesquite ISD’s broader bond program, which continues to focus on enhancing safety, modernizing facilities, and creating high-quality learning environments across the district.
